Getting started

Do I need an account?

No Digicove account is needed. The first time you open the app you create a vault with your name and a password. The vault is stored in the iCloud of the Apple Account signed in on your device, and you use the same password on your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

What should I put in a title?

Something you'd recognize, like "Passport" or "Home Alarm". Keep the secret parts — numbers, codes, passwords — in the fields below the title. Fields are encrypted by Digicove; titles are protected by iCloud's own encryption instead.

Filling in an item from a scan

When adding a passport or license (Identity), a card, or vehicle info, tap the scan button at the top of the details. Scan with the camera or choose a photo. For a passport, include the two lines of <<< under the photo. For a US or Canadian driver's license, scan the front, or the barcode on the back for the most exact result. You'll see what was found and choose what to fill in. Your device reads the scan itself — nothing is uploaded. Scan to fill is part of Digicove Family; anyone can attach a scan to an item.

Getting reminded before something expires

Edit an item with a date, like a passport, license, registration or warranty, and turn on Remind Me. Choose the date and how far ahead to be reminded. Allow notifications for Digicove when asked. Reminders arrive at 9 AM on each of your devices.

Adding a photo of yourself

Go to Settings → My Account → Add Photo and pick a photo. Pinch or use the slider to zoom, drag to center your face in the circle, then tap Use Photo. Your photo appears on your other devices and to the people you share folders with.

Digicove for Mac

Getting started on a Mac

Install Digicove from the Mac App Store on a Mac signed in to the same Apple Account as your iPhone. Open it, wait a moment while it finds your vault in iCloud, and unlock it with your usual password. It's included with your purchase and needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Finding your way around

The sidebar holds All Items, Favorites, your categories, folders, folders shared with you and tags. Choose one to see its items, then an item to see its details. Right-click a folder to edit, share or leave it.

• ⇧⌘⌫ show the trash, ⌘, settings

Scanning on a Mac

While adding or editing an item, choose the scan button, then Choose Image or PDF. Or use File → Import from iPhone to take a photo or scan a document with your iPhone's camera; Digicove asks whether to fill in the fields from it or attach it.

Locking on a Mac

Turn on Touch ID in Settings → Security. Digicove locks when your Mac sleeps or its screen locks, and after the auto-lock time when you're away from it. Numbers you copy clear from the clipboard after two minutes.

Sharing with people you trust

How do I share a folder?

Only folders are shared; everything else in your vault stays yours. On iPhone, go to Folders, tap ⋯ next to a folder, and choose Share Folder. On a Mac, right-click the folder in the sidebar. Send the invitation by Messages, Mail or a link, and choose whether each person can make changes or only view. Folders inside it are shared too. Sharing is part of Digicove Family.

What does the other person need?

• An iPhone, iPad or Mac with Digicove installed
• An Apple Account signed in to iCloud
• Their own vault, with their own password

If the invitation doesn't open Digicove, they should install the app, create their vault, then tap the invitation again. The folder appears under Shared with Me.

Can they share a folder with me?

Yes, the same way. Folders shared with you appear under Shared with Me, marked with who they're from and whether they're view only.

Changing who has access, or stopping sharing

Choose Manage Sharing on the folder to add people, change their access or stop sharing. Someone who no longer wants a folder you shared can choose Leave Folder; you keep it.

Does the person I invite have to pay?

No. Only the person who shares a folder needs Family.

What's included in Digicove Family?

Free covers your own vault: unlimited items, attachments and scanned documents, every built-in category, and sync across your devices. Family adds folder sharing, scan to fill, tags, sending an item by Messages, Mail or AirDrop, your own categories, and export. People in a folder you share get the Family features for free.

Passwords and security

I forgot my password.

On the unlock screen, tap Forgot password?, then enter your recovery key and a new password. Dashes, spaces and capitals in the key don't matter.

Without a recovery key, your vault cannot be recovered. We never hold your key, which is what keeps your vault private — and why we can't unlock it for you.

Setting up a recovery key

Create one in Settings → Security → Recovery Key; Digicove also offers it when you create a vault. The key is shown once. Print it or write it down, and keep it away from your devices. Creating a new key stops the old one from working.

How do I turn on Face ID or Touch ID?

Go to Settings → Security and turn on Unlock with Face ID (or Touch ID). You'll be asked to confirm once.

How do I lock the vault right away?

Tap Lock Vault Now in Settings → Security, or press ⌘L on a Mac. Digicove waits for you to choose Face ID, Touch ID or your password before unlocking again.

Devices and your data

Moving to a new iPhone, or adding an iPad or Mac

Sign in to the same Apple Account on the new device, install Digicove, and wait while it finds your vault in iCloud. Unlock it with your usual password.

My changes aren't showing on another device.

Pull down on the item list, tap Sync Now in Settings → iCloud Sync, or press ⌘R on a Mac. Check that both devices are signed in to iCloud and online. If Settings stays on Waiting to sync, a network filter or ad blocker such as Pi-hole may be blocking iCloud; allow *.icloud.com, *.icloud-content.com, *.apple-cloudkit.com and *.push.apple.com.

How much iCloud space does my vault use?

Settings → Vault Tools shows your vault's size. It counts toward your iCloud storage, including folders you share. Folders someone shares with you count toward theirs. You can also see Digicove in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.

Exporting everything

On the Family plan, export the whole vault in Settings → Vault Tools → Export All Data. You get one CSV file per category plus your attachments, in a single zip. The export is not encrypted, so store it somewhere safe and delete it when you're done.

Importing items

Bring items in from CSV files in Settings → Vault Tools → Import Items. Use one file per category; the file name picks the category, and you can change it before importing. Columns are matched to fields by name, anything that doesn't match goes into Notes, and items already in your vault are skipped. Attachments aren't imported.

Deleting your data

Delete items in the app and empty the Trash. To remove everything Digicove keeps in iCloud, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Digicove. We store none of your data, so there's nothing for us to delete.

Subscriptions

Restoring a purchase

Open Settings → Subscription in Digicove and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account that bought it.

Canceling

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or tap Manage Subscription in Digicove. If you cancel, nothing you've already stored is deleted.
